African American Man's
Soul
KEEP YOUR STORIES COMING...I
am inviting and encouraging you to continue submitting stories! We
are collecting heart-warming, inspiring, short, TRUE stories
related to the African American experience for these books
(part of the huge
Chicken Soup for the
Soul® series that is
distributed nationwide and worldwide) that will celebrate our
culture, our people, our resilience, our strength—honoring our
laughter and our tears—through our stories. While I am charged
with creating the books, it will take a village to share the
stories.
Benefits of Submitting Your
Story
There are several benefits to participating, one
being a payment for each story accepted for the final publication
and, even more exciting, is the PR opportunity.
In addition to having your story/name seen and
read by, potentially, millions, there is also an opportunity to
put a paragraph at the back of the book that features any other
books or projects that you may be in involved with.
The
exposure is tremendous. In addition, and undoubtedly most
important, is the opportunity to make a powerful contribution to,
and through, our community.
Story contributors have said:
"Regardless of whether
my story makes it in the book, the experience of writing it has been so
wonderful and so powerful! Thank you for inspiring me to write!"
"I just want to take this opportunity
to thank you for doing this project. As a writer I am proud to see a
sister carrying the torch and lighting the path for other writers. I
intend to submit a story, but I just wanted to take time to say, thank you
for giving place to our "voice" and continue to press toward the mark."
—Tawanda Prince
"I give thanks to God for a time such
as this, for the opportunity for our voice, as a people to be heard in
this unique way. I thank you Lisa and your talented and supportive staff
for taking on such a wonderful project. It is time. I am praying for its
success and will continue to spread the word about it to others."
—Wilma J. Bryan
"You both need to know how beautiful
you both are to me and how proud I am of you. You make me feel good to be
BLACK! And that's why I got your
backs. In a real way! Let's keep rollin' 'til the wheels fall
off...! CSFTAAS will never be defeated!"
—Tony Magee |
And, if you are affiliated with a publishing
company, magazines, speakers bureau, school, church or
organization with Black individuals who would be interested in
participating, please, please extend this invitation on to them!
To
increase your story's chances of being selected, please CAREFULLY
read the story submission guidelines and the example stories in
Chicken Soup for the African American Soul and Chicken Soup for
the African American Woman's Soul to be sure your story is "the
right flavor"!
